Wetter alder / cattail to the east, spruce forest (upland) to the west. Part of a large, relatively undisturbed wetland.;Plot is in an inaccessible (no trails, access through thick Alnus / Typha) part of the wetland. This is probably on a slow successional path between open sedge meadow and eventual spruce forest. Sphagnum on hummocks (hollows are bare or litter covered). Prunus is stunted with many dead branches and sparse foliage.
Representativeness
This open shrubland with good spruce regeneration is a fairly large patch which separates the northern and southern halves of Alder Run Bog. This plot is typical of the mixed shrub/spruce type. Alder and alder/Typha/Salix dominate elsewhere.
